The wide facets of the diamond may vary from 58 to 72, which along with the clipped corners actually
make the diamond resemble more of an octagon than a square.There two different kinds of Asscher diamonds though. The one that is more common consists of 58 facets and is not patented. The Royal Asscher Cut was, however, introduced in 2001 and patented subsequently. You will not be able to buy it from anywhere else but from the company of the same name. The prefix of Royal was given by Queen Juliana of Holland in 1980 to the Asscher Diamond Company. An authentic Royal Asscher Cut diamond will also have a miniscule logo of the company inscribed by laser into the diamond.
